Knowing Maia is an experience on its own. Seeing her and talking with her is that experience of knowing someone.
I took her original words and quotes as the content. The plexi glass is in tandem with her first sentence.
To the viewer, it is first clear and open. “I’m really open.” And the pages of this plexi book are see through hence it feels as if you can read the layers. As you pick it up to flip through it, it is actually quite heavy and takes more than just a flip to get past. It is open and clear BUT… it’s heavy.
As you read the book, the goal of a reader is to read the words but the experience of the reader is that, it isn’t easy.
It isn’t easy to know another person. It takes time and energy. Like the plexi book, you cannot skim through a person if you wanted to know someone. It takes commitment.
Originally the last piece that says “I like being alone” is attached to a base so it cannot be picked. It is because you cannot finish reading a person. There is no one in this world that completely and 100% knows another human being.
